Statement on Edinburgh AFAF film screening
Having learned of Edinburgh AFAF’s planned screening of the film Adult Human Female, we therefore wrote to the Principal to ask UoE to withdraw support for this event. Specifically, we asked for permission for this to be held in a University building to be revoked. We pointed out that the film description (then on Eventbrite but now taken down) contained content that was, “a clear attack on trans people's identities and not in line with Dignity and Respect policy. It is specifically not, ‘expression within a framework of mutual respect’”.
Overall cuts to our pensions
as of 5 Sep, 2022 - In February, the employers’ association (UUK) completed the process of imposing the latest round of cuts to the future accrual of pension benefits. These cuts mainly took effect from April.
Edinburgh Uni finance fiasco cripples research and leaves staff unpaid
It’s unacceptable for staff to face delays in being paid what they’re owed for work they’ve done. The university need to pull out all the stops to pay people so that they can pay their rent, bills and meet their financial commitments.
Vote Yes to Reverse the Pensions Cuts
The cuts imposed last year were not necessary, and it is affordable to reverse the cuts.
The Ballots Begin
Our ballots open on 6th September and run for 7 weeks. The branch is getting geared up for a massive Get The Vote Out (GTVO) operation as we mobilise members to vote and make our voices heard. The stakes have never been higher.
